About the Band

Menno Valley Sound started out as Stirling Silver Trio in the 70’s. It was started by three friends, Tom Musselman, Mark Reusser and Larry Shantz. They mostly sang at church events and at each others homes for fun. We always joked that we only knew 3 songs and 3 chords on the guitar, thus the trio.

The band eventually grew and no longer being a trio it was decided to change the name to Menno Valley Sound. Well, we learned a few more chords and a lot more songs and decided to branch out into singing at fundraisers, banquets, community events, retirement homes etc. Not expecting compensation for our gigs, the new joke became “you get what you pay for”.

We have changed our motto a little and have decided to start charging for some of our events. However, our vision of being a not-for-profit band hasn’t changed so at the end of the year we donate our proceeds to a local charity.

Over the years we have been able to help raise tens of thousands of dollars for charities such as ALS, House of Friendship, and MennoHomes to name a few. We have also been the entertainment at a number of retirement/long term care homes, community events and other non profit organizations.

At the end of the day you would be able to ask any one of us why we do what we do and I’m sure you get a version of the same answer – “just for fun.”
