Drummer
My music career began in preteens, learning to play slide and rhythm guitar. At age 13, I went in to sing and play guitar for “Red Morticians”. Don’t look for this band on YouTube, however if you do find something, please press “DELETE”. On the bright side, it was during this time I developed my interest in drums and my parents purchased my first kit. A decision I’m sure they soon came to regret, as a varied and constant stream of budding musicians began appearing and jamming in the basement of our family home in Waterloo. I recall my parents complaining that the upstairs TV (set in a heavy wooden console) was at one point bouncing across the living room floor in time with the downstairs bass rhythm.
I cut my first (and only) single playing on an album created for Bluevale Collegiate’s production of Many Moods of Love. Following high school, drumming took a back seat to university, medical school studies and residency training. Once my career was launched and I started working in K-W’s Hospitals, the drums once again came to the forefront as I began playing with a wide variety of local bands. Most notably, Cowboy Up, frontend by an enthusiastic and encouraging mentor – Larry Lesperance. It was during a hiatus with Cowboy Up that I was recruited by Larry Shantz to join Menno Valley Sound. I’m happy to say I haven’t looked back since. It would be difficult to find a more talented, gracious, fun loving, quick witted group of musicians and singers. After following multiple paths on a musical journey, with Menno Valley Sound I feel like I’ve finally come home.
